安上がりに英語力をUPする方法の一つに、何度も繰り返し映画のシーンを聞くことにより、耳を馴らすというやり方があることは以前に説明しました。

今日はそのレッスンの続きです。

『When Harry Met Sally』の邦題は『恋人たちの予感』です。本作は今年の６月に惜しまれながら他界した脚本家、ノーラ・エフロンの代表作で、下の動画はカッツ・デリカテッセンというユダヤ料理の惣菜・飲食店での超有名なシーンです。

サリーを演じるメグ・ライアンの迫真的な（笑）オーガズムのフリも見逃せませんが、ハリー（ビリー・クリスタル）との会話の自然さ、可笑しさを見るにつけ、ノーラ・エフロンという脚本家の凄さを改めて思い知らされます。最後にサリーとハリーのやりとりを呆気に取られて見ていたオバサンが、ウエイターから「何にしますか？」と訊かれて、おもわず「あの娘が食べているものを、頂戴！」と言ってしまう箇所……これはアメリカ映画史に残る名（迷？）シーンです。



Sally: So what do you do to these women? Do you just get up out of bed and leave?
Harry: Sure.
Sally: Explain to me how you do it. What do you say?
Harry: I say I have early meeting, early hair cut or squashing.
Sally: You do not play squash.
Harry: They do not know that. They just met me.
Sally: It’s disgusting.
Harry: I know I feel terrible.
Sally: You know I am so glad that I never got involved with you. I just would have ended up with some woman who has to get up and leave at three in the morning to clean and iron and you do not even have a fireplace, not that I would know this.
Harry: Why are you getting so upset? This is not about you.
Sally: Yes it is. You are a human a front all woman and I am a woman.
Harry: I do not feel so great about this but I have not heard anyone complaining.
Sally: Of course not you are out of the door too fast.
Harry: I think they have an OK time.
Sally: How do you know?
Harry: How I know, I know.
Sally: Because they…
Harry: Yes, because they…
Sally: How do you know they are really…
Harry: What are you saying? They fake orgasm?
Sally: It is possible.
Harry: Get out of here.
Sally: Why, most women at one time or another fake it.
Harry: Well, they have not faked with me.
Sally: How do you know?
Harry: Because I know.
Sally: Oh…Right, that’s right…I forgot you are a man.
Harry: What does that supposed to mean?
Sally: Nothing. It’s just that all men are sure it never happens to them and most women at one time or another have done it so you do the math.
Harry: You don’t think I can tell the difference?
Sally: No.
Harry: Get out of here.
